Auszug aus unserem Programm, Dienstag, 21. Juli:
9 a.m. – Morning tour of Monticello, including gardens
12:30 p.m. – Lunch at Michie Tavern - Michie Tavern was a colonial-era “roadhouse”, offering lodging, food and drink for travelers and locals. It has been restored as a “living history” feature.
Late afternoon – Tour of the University of Virginia; lecture by Professor Arnesen - The university was conceived and designed by Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence, was also gifted at embedding his ideas in the physical environment of spaces and buildings. The university represents his metaphoric ideal of American cultural democracy, and is a predecessor to the ornate Federalism of Washington, DC, the nation’s capital.
